Examination fees are set annually by the respective examination boards and may change. Smartious will invoice the exact published board fee plus the $25 administration fee. Late entries (after the normal closing date) attract additional late entry penalties charged by the board.

Common fee questions

Why do you charge in USD?

Smartious serves families across 14 countries. USD pricing keeps fees stable regardless of local currency fluctuations. Families paying in KES, AED, GBP or other currencies are converted at the prevailing rate at the time of payment, with no Smartious markup.

Are the external examination fees marked up?

No. Cambridge, Edexcel, IBO and College Board examination fees are pass-through at exactly the published board rate. Smartious adds only a $25 administration fee per examination series to cover registration coordination, candidate management and centre liaison.

Can I pay in Kenyan Shillings (KES)?

Yes. All USD fees are convertible to KES at the prevailing exchange rate. We provide a KES-denominated invoice on request. Payment is accepted via M-Pesa Paybill (247247), bank transfer to our Kenyan account, or card payment via Paystack.

What happens if I miss a payment?

A 7-day grace period applies. After this, a $25 late payment fee is added. After 14 days of non-payment, the student's LMS access is suspended until the account is brought current. After 30 days, the place may be released. We always prefer to discuss payment difficulties — please reach out before things escalate.

Are textbooks and materials included?

Digital textbooks and resources are included in all tiers via the Digital Library subscription. Physical textbooks for In-Person students are included in the registration fee for Year 1. Subsequent years' textbook refreshes are charged at cost ($40-80 per subject) when curriculum books change.

Can I get a refund if my child withdraws mid-year?

Yes, partially. Tuition for unused weeks is refundable pro-rata with 14 days' written notice. Registration fees are non-refundable. Examination fees, once paid to the board, are non-refundable. A $80 mid-term withdrawal processing fee applies.

Do you offer financial aid or scholarships?

Yes. Smartious operates a need-based bursary programme covering up to 50% of tuition for families demonstrating financial need. Apply via the admissions office with supporting financial documentation. Decisions are made within 14 days.

Can I freeze my payments during school holidays?

Online and In-Person tier fees are charged for 11 months of the year (with August holiday) on monthly billing; or 3 terms on termly billing. The annual billing cycle covers the full academic year. There is no payment freeze option mid-year.

Are fees tax-deductible?

For Kenyan taxpayers: school fees are not currently deductible from personal income tax. For families paying from corporate accounts or via employer education benefits, please consult your tax advisor. We provide official receipts for all payments.
