Private tutoring in Dubai is among the most expensive in the world. Understanding why, and where smart families find better value, saves thousands of dirhams per year.
Three structural reasons: (1) high expatriate tutor costs — qualified UK or US-trained teachers command premium rates; (2) Dubai commercial rental costs for tuition centres are among the highest globally; (3) high demand with 85% of Emirati and 60% of expat families using private tutoring increases pricing power.
Entry tier (undergraduate tutors): AED 80–150/hour. Mid tier (qualified teachers, 2+ years): AED 200–300/hour. Premium tier (senior examiners, PhD tutors): AED 400–700/hour. For university prep (SAT, UCAT, BMAT) premium tutors go AED 500–900/hour.
Dubai tuition centres charge by package, typically AED 350–600/hour equivalent for group classes of 4–8 students. Monthly packages of 2 sessions per week for one subject run AED 2,500–5,000.
Online tutoring breaks the Dubai pricing model. UK-based online tutors: AED 150–350/hour. International online platforms (Smartious at USD 15/hour, about AED 55; Explore Learning): AED 30–100/hour. Same qualifications, 60–80% cheaper.
University entrance exam prep (SAT, ACT, UCAT, BMAT) often justifies premium tutors because the ROI is high — a single test score point can change university admission outcomes. A-Level preparation for competitive subjects (medicine, Oxbridge) similarly justifies premium. Everyday IGCSE support usually does not.
Signing 6-month packages upfront (removes negotiation leverage). Paying for tutors in areas where online would work (most subjects). Hiring too many tutors in parallel (dilutes attention). Not checking credentials — Dubai's tutor market includes many unverified operators.
Dubai tutoring is expensive by global standards in 2026. Smart families use in-person tutoring selectively for genuinely premium needs (university prep) and shift everyday support to high-quality online providers. A 60–70% annual cost reduction without sacrificing quality is achievable.
Yes. Termly pre-payment commonly earns 10–15% discount. Multi-subject discounts with the same tutor or agency are standard.
Most Dubai schools prohibit teachers from tutoring their own students for ethical reasons but will recommend external tutors. Ask your school counsellor.
Track homework grades and mock exam scores monthly. If there is no measurable improvement after 8 sessions, change tutors.
