Inclusion Policy

1. Our commitment

Smartious welcomes every learner. We believe each child can make real progress when teaching fits how they learn, and our small classes and one-to-one lessons let us adapt to each student. This policy explains how we include and support students with different needs, backgrounds and abilities.

2. Equal treatment

We do not discriminate on the grounds of race, ethnicity, nationality, religion or belief, sex, disability, health, family background or income. Every student has the same right to respect, to a safe place to learn, and to the full curriculum.

3. Learning differences and special educational needs

We support students with learning differences such as dyslexia, dyscalculia, ADHD and autism, as well as students with physical, sensory or health needs. Parents are asked to tell us about any need at enrolment so we can plan from the first lesson; a diagnosis is helpful but not required for us to start supporting a child.

4. How we plan support

After the assessment, we agree a learning plan with the family. It sets out the student’s strengths, needs, the adjustments we will make, such as pace, lesson length, breaks, recorded lessons, visual materials or one-to-one time, and how progress will be measured. Teachers follow the plan, and we review it with the family every term.

5. Access arrangements in examinations

Students who need extra time, a reader, a scribe or other arrangements in external examinations may be eligible under the rules of Cambridge, Pearson Edexcel, IB or College Board. These arrangements need evidence and must be applied for well before the exam. We guide families through the evidence each board requires and apply on the student’s behalf where we are the examination centre or work with one.

6. Students who need more challenge

Able and gifted students are given work that stretches them, including faster progression, enrichment and early examination entry where it is in the student’s interest.

7. Students learning in English as an additional language

Students who are still developing their English receive support so they can access the full curriculum, as set out in our Language Policy.

8. Wellbeing

Feeling safe and valued is part of learning. Teachers watch for signs that a student is struggling, and we work with families when a student needs extra care. Bullying, exclusion and unkind language are not tolerated in lessons or in our student community.

9. Financial access

We want a Smartious education to be within reach of families who value it. Sibling discounts and need-based bursaries may be available; families can ask our admissions team in confidence.

10. Accessible platforms

Our portals and live lessons are designed to work on phones, tablets and computers. Families who have difficulty using our platforms because of a disability can ask us for an alternative, and we will do what we reasonably can to help.

11. Working with families and specialists

Parents know their children best. With the family’s consent, we are happy to work with therapists, educational psychologists and other specialists who support the student.

12. Concerns and review

If you feel a student’s needs are not being met, contact us at hello@smartioushomeschool.com or +254 745 021 212 and we will respond within five working days. We review this policy at least once every 12 months.
