Frequently asked questions
How does Smartious work for Asheville alternative-education families?
Asheville families often combine progressive educational values with academic rigour. Cambridge IGCSE/A-Level provides the rigour without conventional schooling's constraints — students learn at their own pace through inquiry-based methods, with live teachers facilitating discussion rather than lecturing. Many Asheville families also incorporate outdoor education (Blue Ridge Parkway, French Broad River, Pisgah National Forest) alongside Smartious academics.
Does Smartious help Asheville families apply to liberal arts colleges (Oberlin, Reed, Bennington)?
Yes. Liberal arts colleges (Oberlin, Reed, Hampshire, Bennington, Bard, Sarah Lawrence, Warren Wilson) particularly welcome homeschool applicants with international curriculum credentials. Cambridge A-Level depth in humanities and sciences strengthens these holistic-admissions applications notably. We provide free Common App, supplementary essay guidance for non-traditional colleges, and recommendation letters.
