Burnaby is home to Simon Fraser University (Burnaby Mountain campus — among Canada's most prestigious universities), plus the BC tech/media corridor (EA Canada, Telus, Ballard Power Systems, Westcoast Energy). Burnaby's diverse demographics include significant Chinese, Korean, Filipino, and Iranian communities. Families increasingly homeschool to give children deeper academic preparation than overcrowded Burnaby School District (SD41) schools.

Frequently asked questions
How does Smartious work with Burnaby School District (SD41) and BC DL Funding?
Burnaby families can either register as homeschoolers with SD41 (Burnaby School District) directly or register with a Distributed Learning (DL) school to access BC DL Funding (~$600 CAD/year per child). DL Funding can offset Smartious tuition where the family registers through a DL school. We provide receipts and curriculum documentation supporting both pathways.
Does Smartious help Burnaby families apply to SFU?
Yes. Simon Fraser University (Burnaby Mountain campus, Surrey campus, Vancouver downtown) accepts Cambridge IGCSE and A-Level on equal footing with BC Grade 12. SFU Beedie School of Business, Faculty of Applied Sciences (Engineering Science, Computing Science, Mechatronic Systems Engineering), Faculty of Health Sciences, and Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences all welcome Cambridge-strengthened applications. We provide free SFU and UBC application support.
