Frequently asked questions

How does Smartious work with Nunavut homeschool requirements?

Nunavut families file annual notification with Nunavut Department of Education before homeschooling begins. Light-touch — no required curriculum, no testing, no portfolio review. Inuit families may coordinate Inuktitut language learning, traditional knowledge (Inuit Qaujimajatuqangit, IQ), and land-based education alongside the Nunavut notification.

Does Smartious help Iqaluit families apply to Nunavut Arctic College and southern Canadian universities?

Yes. Nunavut Arctic College (Iqaluit, Cambridge Bay, Rankin Inlet campuses) accepts Cambridge IGCSE and A-Level qualifications. University of Manitoba (Winnipeg — historically Inuit-friendly with established Inuit student support programmes), McGill University (Montreal), University of Ottawa (uOttawa, accessible via daily Iqaluit-Ottawa flights), and Athabasca University (online) all accept Cambridge.

Can Iqaluit and remote Nunavut communities access Smartious via satellite internet?

Yes. Smartious live online instruction works via satellite internet (Starlink, plus Northwestel) for all Nunavut communities. Iqaluit, Rankin Inlet, Cambridge Bay, Pond Inlet, Pangnirtung, Igloolik, Cape Dorset, and remote Inuit hamlet students access identical Cambridge-prepared teachers as Toronto or Vancouver students. Cambridge examinations are accessible via Nunavut Arctic College or Ottawa British Council (Iqaluit-Ottawa flights available daily).
