Online School & Homeschool in Nakuru

Online school and homeschooling in Nakuru

Live online classes for families in Milimani, Section 58, Lanet, Kiamunyi, Naka and Free Area, without boarding and without the highway.

Nakuru became a city in 2021 and has grown quickly, but families still find that many Cambridge and international options in the Rift Valley are boarding schools outside town. Smartious lets Nakuru children follow IGCSE, A Level, the American curriculum or CBE (CBC) at home, with live lessons in East Africa Time. Families in Milimani, Section 58, Lanet and Kiamunyi use us as a full online school, as a day-school alternative to boarding, or for one-to-one tuition.

Challenges Nakuru families face

Why Nakuru families choose Smartious

Full-time Nakuru students get a personal timetable, live small-group lessons, recordings, marked assignments and termly reports on the Smartious LMS. Families often add local sport, such as athletics, rugby, swimming and riding, and outdoor learning around Lake Nakuru and Menengai.

In Nakuru, tuition is delivered online: live one-to-one lessons at USD 15/hour (≈ KSh 1,940 at the Oct 2026 rate). We have no centre in Nakuru. Families visiting Nairobi are welcome at our Parklands or Karen West centre.

Fibre is available in Milimani, Section 58 and much of central Nakuru, and 4G covers Lanet, Kiamunyi and most estates. For farms further out, a 4G router or satellite backup helps, and every lesson is recorded.

Nakuru's growth as a city has brought more professional families who want an international curriculum but do not want their young children boarding. Online school with live teachers gives them a day option at home.

Common questions from Nakuru families

We live in Naivasha or Gilgil. Is that covered?

Yes. Families in Naivasha, Gilgil, Njoro and Molo learn online on the same timetable as Nakuru students.

Can online school fit around riding, rugby or athletics?

Yes. Most families put live lessons in the morning and keep the afternoon for sport, with recordings for anything missed.

Do you have a Nakuru centre?

No. Nakuru families learn live online. Our centres are in Nairobi (Parklands and Karen West).

What are the fees for a Nakuru family?

Online school is from USD 423/month for Primary (≈ KSh 54,600/month at the Oct 2026 rate of about KSh 129/USD), payable termly; secondary, IGCSE, A Level and IB fees vary by curriculum and level. One-to-one tuition is USD 15/hour (≈ KSh 1,940). Fees are non-refundable once the assessment is done, the timetable created and lessons started.

Where would my child sit IGCSE exams?

Cambridge IGCSE and A Level, and Pearson Edexcel International GCSE and A Level, are taken as a private candidate. In Kenya, private-candidate entries are made through British Council Kenya, whose exams team is in Nairobi; entry deadlines fall several months before each series, so check the British Council Kenya website for the current dates and fees. KNEC exams (KJSEA, KCSE) are registered through a KNEC-registered centre within KNEC's registration window. From Nakuru this usually means planning a trip to Nairobi, so allow for highway traffic around Naivasha.

Is this an alternative to boarding school?

For many families, yes. Your child follows a live international curriculum at home and can join local clubs. Some families use Smartious for a few years and then move their child to boarding for the sixth form, or the other way round.

Can my child take KJSEA or KCSE?

Yes, through a KNEC-registered centre in Nakuru County. Under Competency-Based Education (CBE, formerly CBC), learners sit KPSEA at the end of Grade 6 and KJSEA at the end of Grade 9, then move to senior school in Grade 10 with a pathway (STEM, Social Sciences, or Arts and Sports Science). KCSE continues for the remaining 8-4-4 candidates. Both are run by KNEC.

When is the next intake?

The January 2027 intake is open: Term 2 starts on 5 January 2027, and students can also join during the year after an assessment.

How do we pay and contact you?

Families in Kenya usually pay by M-Pesa or bank transfer; card payments go through Paystack. Admissions sends the payment details with your invoice. Admissions: +254 745 021 212 (call or WhatsApp). Academic office: +254 182 071 920. Email: hello@smartioushomeschool.com.
