Homeschooling in UAE Fees: Online School Costs in AED (2026/27)
By Alfred Ouko, Founder · October 2026 · 9 min read
Homeschooling in UAE fees vary enormously because the word covers very different things: a parent teaching from a box of books, a family hiring tutors by the hour, and a full online school with live teachers. This guide sets out what each model costs in dirhams for 2026/27, explains Smartious fees plainly, and lists the costs families forget, such as exam entries. We do not quote other providers’ prices, because we cannot verify them, and we give you the questions to ask instead.

Smartious fees in AED
Smartious fees start from USD 423 a month for Primary, payable termly, and vary by curriculum and level. The dirham is pegged at AED 3.6725 to the dollar, so USD 423 is about AED 1,553 a month (approximate, October 2026). As an illustration, three months at that fee is about USD 1,269, roughly AED 4,660 for a term; the exact term invoice depends on the term, curriculum and level, and admissions confirms it in writing. IGCSE and A Level fees are higher than the Primary starting fee. Fees are non-refundable once the assessment is done, the timetable has been created and lessons have started.
One-to-one tuition
One-to-one tuition is USD 15 an hour, about AED 55. Many UAE families use it alongside a school or a parent-led homeschool, for IGCSE mathematics, sciences or English, or for A Level subjects. Two hours a week over a twelve week term is 24 hours, about USD 360, roughly AED 1,322.
What the Smartious fee covers
The fee covers live lessons with qualified subject teachers on a weekly timetable in UAE time, homework set and marked by those teachers, regular assessments, written reports and parent meetings online, and guidance on exam entries and private candidate registration. It does not cover exam entry fees, equipment, internet or activities outside lessons. When you compare providers, use this list as a checklist: if another fee looks lower, check which of these it leaves out.
The three models and their costs
Parent-led homeschooling costs mainly curriculum materials, exam fees and activities, plus a great deal of parent time. Tutor-led homeschooling adds hourly costs for each subject handed over, which grow quickly at secondary level. Online school is a single termly fee for a full timetable of live lessons, with the parent supervising rather than teaching. For a family covering eight IGCSE subjects, tutor hours add up fast, which is why many UAE families move to an online school at secondary level.
Exam fees and other costs
Students sit Cambridge and Pearson Edexcel exams as private candidates at authorised centres such as the British Council in the UAE. Entry fees are charged per subject by the centre and are separate from school fees, with higher fees for late entries. Budget too for a laptop, webcam and headset, reliable internet, books, and activities and sport, which matter for a child learning at home. If your child may later need Ministry of Education equivalency, there may be attestation and application costs; check the current requirements on moe.gov.ae.
How to compare fairly
Ask every provider how many live teaching hours a week the fee includes, the class size, whether teachers are qualified in their subjects, what time lessons are in UAE time, whether fees are monthly, termly or yearly and in which currency, whether exam fees are included, and what the refund rule is. Ask too what the provider can and cannot say about recognition in the UAE. Smartious does not claim approval or licensing from KHDA, ADEK or the Ministry of Education, and any provider should be equally clear about its own position.
Comparing with a UAE private school
A fair comparison with a private school includes everything: tuition, transport, uniforms, trips, re-enrolment and registration fees, and the time spent on the school run. It also includes what you lose: the campus, the facilities and, for some families, a clearer route back into the UAE school system. Online school is not a like-for-like substitute for every family. For many it is the right choice for a period, such as a relocation, a wait for a school place or the IGCSE years, and the cost comparison is one part of that decision.
Paying from the UAE
Smartious invoices termly in US dollars, and with the dirham pegged, the AED amount is stable. Families pay through our payment provider by card or bank transfer. Talk to admissions before the assessment if you have more than one child or particular needs.
