How Smartious compares to top Ukraine schools

Ukrainian families researching online school options face a distinctive market. State-provided "All-Ukrainian Online School" (Всеукраїнська школа онлайн) is FREE Ukrainian curriculum online — Smartious does NOT compete with this on price and does not attempt to. Smartious offers a distinct value: Cambridge / Edexcel / IB / American / Ontario OSSD international curriculum in English, providing pathway to UK Russell Group + US Ivy League + Canadian U15 + German uni-assist + Polish public universities. UK-based competitors (CHS Online at £10,950/year, King's InterHigh at £8-15K/year, Wolsey Hall self-paced at £4-7K/year) also serve Ukrainian refugee families in the UK but at premium pricing. Smartious personalized pricing from USD 400/month provides a more accessible international pathway for Ukrainian families regardless of current location.

Regulatory framework

Homeschool laws & regulatory framework in the Ukraine

UKRAINIAN LEGAL FRAMEWORK: Ukrainian Law "On Complete General Secondary Education" (2020) explicitly permits family education (сімейна освіта) and distance learning (дистанційне навчання). Martial law provisions since 2022 have expanded acceptance of all forms of remote learning. Ukrainian families in-country can freely enrol with online schools including Smartious. Ukrainian refugee families abroad should also observe host country registration rules for children in host country school systems.

Law "On Complete General Secondary Education" (2020)

Ukrainian law explicitly recognizes family education (сімейна освіта) and distance learning (дистанційне навчання) as legitimate educational pathways. Parents may register children with accredited providers including foreign online schools.

Martial law provisions since February 2022

Since Russia's full-scale invasion, Ukrainian Ministry of Education and Science has expanded acceptance of all forms of remote learning to enable education continuity for displaced children. The state "All-Ukrainian Online School" (Всеукраїнська школа онлайн) provides free Ukrainian curriculum online.

Diaspora family host country rules

Ukrainian refugee families abroad should also observe host country registration rules. Poland, Germany, Czech Republic, UK have varying requirements for refugee children in host country school systems. Many families combine host country school attendance with Smartious international curriculum for pathway options.

Cambridge / IB / American qualification recognition

Ukrainian universities accept Cambridge A-Level and IB Diploma directly via Bologna process alignment. UK, US, Canadian, German, and Polish universities accept these qualifications standardly.

Post-war returnee planning

Ukrainian families planning post-war return maintain international qualifications for children's future international mobility. Cambridge A-Level and IB Diploma provide portable credentials independent of post-war Ukrainian education system evolution.

Book an assessment for your child

Two-gate admissions process. Submit the assessment request form — our Head of Admissions reviews every request within three business days. If accepted, the assessment fee is invoiced before the diagnostic is scheduled. Discounted rates available for Ukrainian refugee and internally displaced families.

How the process works
  1. Submit the assessment request form. Full student and family details, curriculum interest, target universities. No payment at this stage.
  2. Admissions reviews the request. Our Head of Admissions evaluates fit against current cohort, year-group capacity, and curriculum alignment. We respond to every request within three business days regardless of decision.
  3. Assessment fee invoiced on acceptance. If the request is accepted, the family receives an invoice for the assessment fee. The fee is required before the diagnostic is scheduled, and is credited against the first month's tuition if the family proceeds to enrolment.
  4. Diagnostic assessment and curriculum recommendation. Structured testing across English, Mathematics and Science, written report, and a 30-minute consultation with the Head of Academics.
  5. Enrolment decision. Admission is determined on the basis of the assessment results, not the form alone. Families that are a good fit receive a formal enrolment offer; families that aren't receive an honest recommendation of better-suited alternatives.
