Virtual School in Nepal: The Second City, the Industrial East, the Medical Centre and the Western Corridor

Nepal concentrates almost all of its A-Level teaching in the Kathmandu valley, and four substantial regional centres sit outside it. Pokhara is the second city and tourism capital. Biratnagar anchors the industrial east. Bharatpur has become a medical city. Butwal and Bhairahawa run the western trade corridor. Each has ambition, an economy and a population; none has real A-Level provision.

Pokhara, and the tourism economy

Nepal’s second city anchors the trekking and tourism industry with a growing professional and hospitality population and an international airport, two hundred kilometres west of the valley. Geography and environmental science have unusually good local ground here — the Annapurna region, the lakes, the visitor economy — and Economics and Business suit the families running hospitality and trekking operations. The seasonal working year is a real factor, which is why every class being recorded matters more here than in a capital.

Biratnagar and the east

The eastern belt carries jute, textiles and manufacturing alongside the Indian border trade corridor and the tea gardens of the eastern hills at Ilam. It is a substantial industrial and commercial region and A-Level provision is very limited, with the valley a long way west. Economics, Business, Accounting and Mathematics for the trading and manufacturing families; Physics, Mathematics and Chemistry for the engineering-bound. A single live group covers a student in Dharan or Birtamod as readily as one in the city.

Bharatpur, and a medical city

Central Nepal has grown quickly and Bharatpur now carries an unusual concentration of medical colleges and health-sector institutions, alongside Chitwan National Park with its conservation and research work and the agriculture of the central plains. Biology and Chemistry with Mathematics is by some distance the most requested set we receive from this city — which is exactly what a place with this many medical institutions would produce — and the national park makes environmental science genuinely well grounded rather than theoretical.

Butwal, Bhairahawa and the west

The western corridor has grown into a significant commercial and industrial region, running the Indian border trade route through Bhairahawa with its international airport, alongside Lumbini and the agriculture and manufacturing of the western plains. Provision is thin and Kathmandu is a long way east. Business and Economics for the trade corridor, Biology and Chemistry for the agricultural and veterinary routes.

What the four share, and how to plan it

A substantial economy, real academic ambition, and a traditional answer — send the child to Kathmandu at grade 11 — that costs a family a second household. Two to four Cambridge subjects alongside a Nepali school enrolment is realistic, then two or three A-Levels chosen strictly for the target course. Plan the examination question at enrolment rather than late, because provision is concentrated in the valley and journeys in Nepal are longer than the map suggests. And confirm your legal position with the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology if your plan depends on it, since we could not verify Nepal’s home-education position and say so rather than guessing.

Conclusion

A tourism city, an industrial belt, a medical centre and a trade corridor — four regions that have been paying for a second household to reach a subject teacher. Book an assessment for your child, or start with our Pokhara, Biratnagar and Chitwan pages.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is there A-Level provision outside the valley?+

Very little. Pokhara, Biratnagar, Bharatpur and Butwal all have substantial populations and almost no A-Level teaching. Live delivery reaches all four identically.

Our child wants medicine — what should they take?+

Cambridge A-Level Biology and Chemistry with Mathematics, planned backward from the target university from IGCSE onward. It is the most requested set we receive from Bharatpur.

Where would examinations be sat?+

At authorised provision concentrated in the Kathmandu valley, with travel planned ahead from the regions — journeys here are longer than the map suggests, so we plan it at enrolment.

How many subjects alongside a Nepali school week?+

Two to four is realistic, then two or three A-Levels chosen strictly for the target course.
