The IB Diploma Programme is a rigorous, balanced two-year course recognised by over 2,000 universities in more than 90 countries. Unlike specialised qualifications, the IB requires breadth — students study six subjects across all major disciplines, alongside three core components that develop critical thinking, research skill and personal growth. It is widely regarded as excellent preparation for university and is highly valued by admissions tutors worldwide.

Structure — six subject groups
Students choose one subject from each of six groups: Studies in Language and Literature; Language Acquisition; Individuals and Societies; Sciences; Mathematics; and the Arts (or a second subject from another group). Three subjects are taken at Higher Level and three at Standard Level, giving both depth and breadth.
The three core elements
Beyond the six subjects, every IB student completes Theory of Knowledge (TOK), an enquiry into the nature of knowledge itself; the Extended Essay, an independent 4,000-word research project; and CAS — Creativity, Activity, Service — a programme of personal and community engagement. Smartious supervises all three with dedicated support.
Assessment and pathways
Assessment combines external examinations with internally-assessed coursework. The Diploma is scored out of 45 points. The IB is accepted for direct university entry worldwide and is particularly well regarded by universities in North America and Europe for the breadth and independence it demonstrates.
Why choose IB Diploma (DP)
The IB Diploma suits well-rounded students who do not want to narrow their studies too early and who value independent research and critical thinking. Its global recognition and reputation for academic depth make it a powerful qualification for ambitious students applying to universities internationally.
